this week's brew 🎧

We're taking next week off (and I'm technically out of office already visiting family in Korea!) but before we touch some grass and eat some snacks, I wanted to be sure to close out our official time with Arco.
Joel and I had a blast chatting with Fáyer, the one of the writers and programmers for Arco. His influence was a primary factor in the game moving from a roguelike and multiplayer direction into the more narrative focused, linear story we have today. It was fascinating to hear how the development team's journey paralleled the characters of the game in the ways they found one another, and how much of the process was quite iterative!
Check out supplementary recs to expand on what we discussed in the interview!
Next Month's Brew: We're off next week, but it's good chance to get started on our April title, the community-selected, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage!
We'll be releasing the first discussion episode (covering Tape One) on April 15th, so feel free to pick it up, check out the playthrough guide, and get a head start on gathering your thoughts on the game.

In a Geeks & Grounds first, we immediately dove into the sequel for Butterfly Soup this week (one week after finishing the original). It felt like another breath of fresh air to play, and we discuss our enduring love for these characters, as well as the ways that Brianna Lei - the developer - broadens the world of Butterfly Soup by exploring not just the teens themselves, but their families as well....

Butterfly Soup is our first game discussion for the month of June, and I can't think of a better way to kick off Pride. Yes, this game has representation on a variety of levels. Yes, this game deftly handles challenging relationship issues between friends and family. But also? This is one of the funniest and most joyful games that I've ever...

It is time to discover what's behind that locked Lazarette door, deduce the rest of these fates, and determine the tale of the Obra Dinn! This week is the final discussion of the game, and while we're encompassing the whoooole thing (including my attempt at summarizing the events in chronological order), our focus chapters include: Chapter II: A Bitter Cold Chapter V: Unholy Captives Chapter IV: The...
