this week's brew π§
|
This episode probably had the most epic difference of experience between myself and Joel in (I think) all of the games we've played together so far (you'll know what it is when we start taking about the card game mechanics). π€£π And what a kickoff to the game discussion it is!
I Was A Teenage Exocolonist was filled with conundrums for us: there were elements we loved...but there was a lot that perplexed us, which made for some really engaging conversation. We talked about what we hope for in a game when it includes discussion of colonization in it's themes, choice and consequence, and how fully committing -- versus sitting in the middle -- often makes for more compelling stories.
Hope you all enjoy, and please join us as we continue the convo: our monthly hangout is this Saturday, August 23rd, at 3 pm PT in our Discord! Make sure you give yourself the Geeks & Grounds role when you join.

Joining the cafΓ© next month will be the incredible team at No Small Games: Kate and Emily!

Next week, we'll spend some time getting to know Emily and Kate along with all of their work in highlighting indie games. We'll also shout out some of our most anticipated titles for September and discuss some of the top industry news happening currently. Keep an eye out for our Indiescovery releasing on September 9th!β
β
Of course, we'll also do some preliminary discussion on our September brew -- the game we'll be percolating over for the month: Chants of Sennaar. The full discussion and deep dive releases on Sept 23rd, so pick up the game and get ready for a month of puzzling through pictorial languages. Want to check out the review guide now? this week's brew π§what we played this week and indies to keep an eye on I've returned from a quick work trip (visiting the beautiful Olso and Copenhagen!) and am beyond excited to share this week's episode with you all! Kate and Emily -- co-founders of No Small Games -- are folks I've been wanting to collaborate with for a while. They also have a podcast where they cover both individual indie games in deep dive episodes as well as through curated round-ups each month! So, it's only fitting...
this week's brew π§what we played this week + supplementary materials to help you dig deeper. In todayβs episode of Geeks & Grounds, weβre piloting a new format! With the shift to bi-weekly episodes, Iβve decided the first episode of the month is meant to both provide a more dedicated space to highlight the guests co-hosts come to the show, allow us to chat about industry topics, and highlight upcoming indie games ~ without having to take up too much time on our second monthly episode, where...
this week's brew π§what we played this week + supplementary materials to help you dig deeper. Everyone loves a mini-game, right? I've already admitted that picking Deltarune for this month was a very self-indulgent choice, as it's one of my favorite games at the moment, even in its work-in-progress state. And the two chapters that we'll discuss these next couple weeks have solidified it even further as an all-time favorite - no point in burying the lede here - so I'm VERY excited to discuss it...
