last week's recap 🎧
|
Remember your promise. This phrase became the main question for me in this last section of Signalis. We've transitioned from looking for her and now attempting to sort out just what exactly we need to do to fulfill this long-standing request. Joel and I still have tons of questions, even as we compare endings, so if you have insights, I'd love to hear them! Listen to the episode to find out what endings we did get, and join our Discord to chat with the rest of the community about your theories!
Also! Our monthly hangout is almost upon us ~ a reminder that October 26th at 3 pm PT will be our chance to gather in Discord, discuss the game (and any Next Fest demos that caught our eyes), and celebrate the upcoming game for November.
Check out the playthrough guide for our general schedule for playing Control:

👀 🎮notable indie releases this week initial steam next fest recs
We're switching it up this week just to help you kick off some Steam Next Fest options to try! Here are four demos that we think may be worth exploring ~ we list a few more on the podcast this week if you'd like more recs (and, of course, there's the community in Discord who'll be talking demos this week too). Let us know if you give any a try!
Over 2700 demos are available to try this weekend. That's a LOT of demos!
Around once a quarter, Steam dedicates a week to upcoming games and their demos in an event known as Steam Next Fest. What began as a response to COVID and the rise of digital showcases is now a staple in a game's marketing efforts. What began as a list of about 40 demos, though, has now grown to the thousands, which makes finding what resonates best with you even more challenging. That's why we're dedicating next week's podcast to highlighting favorite demos, from us and the community! Read on for this week's reflection question and for a few tips in how to navigate this massive treasure trove of titles.
If you'd like, send your thoughts my way – I read all of them – and consider leaving a voicemail by Oct 21st to be included in the upcoming podcast!
Since we're trying out demos in Steam this week, I wanted to provide a couple of tips that have helped me enjoy each Next Fest!
Stay in the loop -- listen to the weekly podcast on Spotify and Apple, hang with the community in Discord, and find us on Instagram!
Thanks for joining our digital café this week -- talk soon!

Geeks & Grounds is an asynchronous, monthly game club where we play video games and brew good conversation, together! ☕ Each week, receive a newsletter with a reflection question and curated materials meant to help you thoughtfully connect with the games we play.
this week's brew 🎧what we played this week + supplementary materials to help you dig deeper. I am normally not a fan of Westerns. Cowboys, gunslingers, and lots of dust and sand? It just rarely appeals to me. And yet, playing Arco has provided me with a rare occasion to appreciate the genre. We have all the tropes that you may envision when you think of the genre: lone wanderers seeking retribution and justice in a harsh environment, a sense of isolation in a expansive world, and a growing...
this week's brew 🎧what we played this week + supplementary materials to help you dig deeper. To be in a relationship with someone requires change and the ability to accept change. Moving from the vast majority of games where romantic pursuits are clear-cut, both in how you foster relationships as well as who you want to pursue. Characters have their specific likes, dislikes, and personalities, and are (largely) predictable to interact with. A game that was this compellingly messy with it's...
this month's brew 🎧what we'll be playing for February + supplementary materials to help you dig deeper. First discussion episode drops Feb 4th! We had a great hangout concluding our playthrough time with Control -- thanks for everyone who made it! It's now time to introduce our February selection, a game that has taken over my mind in a lot of (wonderful) ways:By a la mode games, Sorry We're Closed is a nostalgic, single-player survival horror game with rich lore, deep characters and multiple...
